Cruising Rocks My World...... Seriously, my world won't stop rocking.

I am going to break these posts up a little.  This post is more about me and one of my many oddities....Most everyone who really knows me, knows that I have a horrible fear of Throw-up.    It's not just something I hate or dislike...it is something I am fearful of.  I don't know how this developed or when it exactly started, but I think it was sometime in elementary school.  My first recollection of someone throwing-up was in Kindergarten.  I also remember in first grade Mrs. West reading Romona Quimby Age 8 and there was a part where Romona threw-up at school.  This was the first of many times that I called home sick...fearful that I might throw-up.  If you ever threw up by me, around me or I even found out that you have thrown-up....you can expect that I would keep my distance as much as possible, even after several days or years :)  In 3rd grade I brought my own lunch to school, we were required to put our lunch in this laundry basket with all the other kids lunches.  Well I didn't want my lunch to touch this boys lunch who had thrown-up once in class. I conjured up a plan and decided to bring my lunch in the old Little Caesar's Pizza bag.  (you know...the big white paper bag that two pizzas used to come in?)  That way my lunch would be too big to fit in the laundry basket and I would just have to carry it. As I got older, I feel like it has only gotten worse.  In College I was out running at CHS track and my boyfriend at the time (remember I waited for Matt faithfully "In My Heart") said he was going to throw-up.  I just kept on running and wanted nothing to do with him.  He told me later that night that he didn't throw-up, I didn't believe him and told him he needed to go home.  Along the line of old boyfriends....there was another college boy friend that told me he has never thrown-up....it made me nervous that he might be the one I was going to marry.....again remember still waiting faithfully "In My Heart" for Matt. I remember telling my mom before I was engaged that I love Matt so much!!!  I said... I think I would even be ok if he threw-up.  Her response.....Wow!!! that must be LOVE.  As we have added kids, the deal has been.....I take care of ALL diapers, but Matt does the throw-up.  Well as you all know, throw-up is not always that convenient and I am proud to say that I have really surprised myself on several occasions...and actually feel some progress being made at... I wouldn't say overcoming my fear, but doing a little bit better.  Now where is this all going???   SOOO our cruise was fast approaching and of course I was nervous about motion sickness for myself and the kids....Matt, he should have been a fighter pilot!  (Looks like I married a man with a strong stomach after all.)  I bought the sea-bands for all of us and some ginger gum and Bonine medicine.  I wanted to be prepared and on top of it all.  When I first stepped foot on the boat, I felt nervous.  I could feel it moving, by the end of the night I was feeling dizzy, and decided to take the Bonine Medicine, just to be on the safe side. I am sure most of it was in my head, but I kept that in my system and never felt sick....and now with all this in mind, you are ready to read about our day in Puerto Vallarta.  And if you are nervous like me about throw- up....don't worry, there is no need to close your eyes, plug your ears and hum the song Stars and Stripes Forever....Three Cheers for the Red, White and Blue!!....for some reason this is my go to song.

Cruise Day 5 - Puerto Vallarta -Yo Ho a Pirate is NOT the Life For Me.

This was the port I was looking forward to the most.  We had a hard time deciding what excursion to do as there were several that sounded like so much fun!!!  We decided on this Pirate Ship one.  I was so excited about taking a Pirate ship to our own island and having options to snorkel, swim, beach volley ball, lounge around and read my book, all the while the kids were on a treasure hunt and played in the sand searching for sea shells.  I was in for a BIG disappointment!!! Not really the excursions fault, but my anxiety of throw-up getting the better of me. (if you haven't read about my fear of throw-up, you may want to click here) Now although I have huge fears of throw-up and fear of me throwing up, I do have a relatively strong stomach and have never thrown-up unless I am actually sick.  But of course I took precaution and made sure to take that Bonine medicine. So the pirate ship itself was ok, however the trip to the private beach was a two hour boat ride.  The pirates fed us breakfast and then put on a show...lame!!!  I was on pins and needles about throw-up, but could see everyone around me was doing fine and having fun. When we were getting close to the beach they announced to us that those who want to snorkel will have to take another 20 min boat ride and that the water conditions are not great, but they are not allowed to cancel the activity.  I immediately knew in my mind, I was NOT going to go snorkeling.  Matt of course was excited and nothing would hold him back from doing it. Then they announced that there are no bathrooms on the island.  I was already about to pee my pants, so me and Elena got up to go to the bathroom.  There was a huge line and as I was going to get in the line, I saw a girl throwing up in a garbage can.  My stomach hit the floor and me trying to brave just wasn't going to happen anymore. I told Elena sorry, we can't go to the bathroom right now.  In my mind every person in that bathroom was throwing up and that the bathroom was a mess.  Panic was in full swing now and I was just barely holding my self together. Matt and his mom had to go to the bottom of the boat and get their snorkeling gear and I was grateful that Matt's dad was there and could hold onto Cody's hand as the boat was so rocky that it would have been really hard to hold both kids hands and hold on to the stair rails and such. I was in charge of my two kids and my big old beach bag with 4 beach towels and water bottles and at the time one broken handle... later turned into two broken handles.  In order to get to the island we had to take a little fisherman tender boat.  Despite what the pictures show, the water was REALLY rough and we had to wait in line and take our turn getting on the little boat. It was quite an ordeal to get us all to the land and a couple of boats had some really close calls.  Matt and his mom went off and went snorkeling.  I was excited to get on the beach...until i saw how slanty the beach area was and how unpredictable the tide was.  There was still enough area to for the kids to play, but it was not ideal beach conditions in my mind.  I stood panicked watching Cody as he played happily in the waves as I held on to Elena's hand trying to control her desire to go out deeper in the water.  Two of my biggest fears were at stake...throw-up and drowning.  Oh ya...and there was also the fact that I still needed to pee. Remember...no bathrooms on the island. But I taught Elena how to be resourceful...she was a little less discreet than I was as she insisted that she move her swimsuit aside.  But to tell you the truth, I was past the point of giving a dang of what people might think.   The treasure hunt for the kids lasted all of 5 min and again...lame. Matt finally came back and they had a great time, which I was glad for, and super glad to have him there as he always helps me feel a little more at ease.  Then came the time to load back on the boat. The water was even more rough this time.  The little tender boats were beginning to fill with water and the pirate guys were doing there best to get people in the boat.  They literally pick up Matt's parents and put them in the boat.  I was starting to feel faint at times, I was so anxious more then I had ever been before.  Matt was a little bit freaked out that I was so freaked out..I just wanted to get helicoptered out of there, I did not want to get back on that boat.  Before I knew it, pirates swooped up the kids and put them in the boat and there was no way in BLEEP that I was going to be apart from them.  My adrenalin kicked in and I flew into that boat.  The waves were so big that the second we got in they all yelled at us sit down, and the our little boat took off with only being half-full and the driver still standing on to the outside of the boat.  We made it safely back to the pirate ship and got on. At this point I had to use the bathroom again...I figured that what ever had happened in there before had hopefully been cleaned up.  I took in deep breaths in and out and I went in.  To my surprise it was VERY nice.  VERY clean and not a bit of throw-up anywhere.  There was a lady in the bathroom and her job was to stand there and make sure it was always clean.  She was constantly mopping, sweeping and checking each bathroom as they were empty.  I felt a lot better after going in there and seeing that it wasn't this horrid thing I had imagined in my mind.   After we were all on the pirate ship they took us down stairs and fed us lunch... I had no appetite what so ever, all I could think about was people throwing up the noodles they just ate.  I couldn't even look at the food. I grabbed a Sprite and went back to my seat up stairs in the fresh air and tried to relax.  After lunch they did some fun games and that helped get my mind off things.  I kept my eye on my watch and was SOOO glad to see our cruise ship as pulled up to dock.  At this point I decided that I like cruising, but as far as excursions...I'd like to stay on the land.  And when I am doing an on land vacation...that would be the time to do some water activities.  So as far as Puerto Vallarta goes...It was VERY pretty and lush and I would love to go back there and see more of the town, but I will never do that pirate ship adventure again. Video of Elena dancing on a rocking boat...Oh Barf, I don't know how she does it but she sure is cute!!!

Pee Cheek Mountain

Ok, this post has a lot of explaining to do....
Never heard of Pee Cheek Mountain?  Well this is how it got it's name.  At least the name we gave it.  What are Pee Cheeks you ask?  That was my question too.  So one day, we were eating dinner when Elena, out of the blue asks me what Pee Cheeks are.  I said, I have no idea I think it is just a nonsense word.  She responded back to me as....No mom, they are like Butt Cheeks, but here in the front.  At first I was kind of like...roll my eyes at her, as she is notorious for talking potty talk and taking advantage of every situation that might allow her to use a "bathroom word"  without getting in trouble.  But than as I thought about the word Pee Cheeks, I thought...you know, that is quite cleaver and I actually am ok using that term to describe that area. So we have gotten a good laugh as we have told others this new term.  So to make matters even more...awkward.  The other day Elena and I were driving home from running a few errands.  She likes to look out the window at the clouds and says stuff like..."oh my gosh!!  a princess and a unicorn, or that one looks just like a heart shaped balloon."  Well this time it wasn't a cloud, it was a mountain range way off in the distance. Soooo here it goes.............wait for it..............."Hey mom!!!  Those mountains look just like my Pee Cheeks....I of course am cracking up inside, but remember she is one to try and get away with saying inappropriate things at appropriate times.....so I didn't want to fuel the fire.  So I gave my normal response to any other object she spots out her window.  "Yes, sweet heart, that looks just like it."  Any ways I had been meaning to tell Matt about this, but I kept forgetting.  So last Saturday, we took the Ranger on this loop Matt wanted us to go on.  We had packed a breakfast and headed out early in the morning.  As we were driving, Matt pointed to the mountain range we were headed to.  "See those three peeks way out there?".... You guessed it, we were headed to Pee Cheek Mountain!!!  So yes...we had a day full of fun and songs about Pee Cheek Mountain.  "She'll be coming round Pee Cheek Mountain when she comes" "High on Pee Cheek Mountain a Banner is unfurled"  "To the top, to the top, to the top of Pee Cheek Mountain"  "Climb Pee Cheek Mountain"  ....ok fire fueled.  We did have an AWESOME time!!!!  So much fun!!!!!  We are really loving this Ranger, it is so nice to go for a "hike/drive" and cover so much area and not be tired at all.  We love to take brakes and the kids just play and play and play.  You will see a few pictures that we took.  One is of Pee Cheek Mountain.. I took this while I was at a red light....not the best picture, but it gives you a mental picture of what Elena saw in the mountain. (If you really want a mental picture of that.)  Another is a heart shaped cactus Cody found and then another heart that Matt and I made with our shadows. (I saw this done on another blog, liked it and copied it.  I think I might even do it again sometime.) I love it when we have these great days as a family.

Valentines' Day!!!!

Valentines Day is such a fun holiday, I know some people are V-Day haters, but I really love it!!  But it is a tricky day to plan things...Hard to get a babysitter, crowded restaurants and never know if Matt will be home on time or have a late night.  I don't think we have ever gone out on Valentines Day, I would much rather be home with the ones I love.  So this year I decided to do Fondue.  We have been toying with the idea of taking to the kids to the Melting Pot for chocolate Fondue, but just have never really thought they would appreciate it for what it is.  But this here at home was a huge hit!!!!  The kids LOVED it! A couple of weeks ago I was talking to my neighbor across the street and she loved the fondue idea too.  Since we just need a few of each item to dip, we each bought some of the things and then divided in half and gave to the other person.  It worked out so well.  For the Cheese we dipped apples and baguette bread and for the Chocolate we dipped strawberries, cheese cake, heat shaped brownie bites, heat shaped Rice Crispy treats, pound cake, heart shaped marshmallows, and peppermint marshmallows.  Seriously we all had so much fun dipping and eating.  And after taking a look at Elena's pants when she was done eating.....I was convinced that we made the right decisions by not taking the kids to the Melting Pot.  We also frosted and decorated cookies.  I purposely only had a few left over after making some for Cody's school class and then for teachers. Another little odd ball info about V-day is Elena's heart hair.  I did this last year for the first time and it turned out really cute.  (you can click here if you really want to see it)  So I was for sure going to do it again this year.  So on the 13th Elena had her Valentine Day Party at Pre-K.  I was all excited to have her cute heart hair...but something went very wrong and we suddenly were pushing time with getting her to school on time. Time decided that we would have no heart hair.  And then on Valentines Day....life just kind of happened and no heart hair again.  But on the 15th I figured better late than never, so I gave it another try.  This time I had success....however it was pretty much a mess by the time anyone saw it.  Oh well the proof is in the picture.  Any ways we had a great Valentines Day and I couldn't be more happy and in love with my three very special Valentines!!!!!

A Little Bit Crafty

I have started to pull out some of my craft stuff again.  I used to love doing craft stuff, I just suddenly stopped for some reason.  I decided it is high time to get back into it again.  First I saw this cute Valentine Garland on the Our Best Bites Website.  Elena and I worked hard cutting and positioning ribbon, hearts and buttons.  We were so excited to hang it up and then....it just didn't look right.  Every where we hung it, it was just kind of boring or something???  I think I concluded that our house is kind of big and one piece of  ribbon with hearts doesn't really do much to say...I am all decorated for Valentines.  So then I decided to make some more garland my own way.  I got some red yarn, and ripped up some fabric I already had and tided it on the yarn.  Ya, it was that easy and I LOVE how it turned out.  So much that I spent another 15 making another strand of it to hang in a different area.  Now between all the garland, it all looks really cute!!!!!

For the kids teachers for Valentines, I saw this cute idea an a blog somewhere and I can't for the life of me find it again.  But I was able to remember/figure out how to make these simple cheep easy gift boxes from a paper plate.  So cute!!!  And they held several heart sugar cookies perfectly.

A Gift Only a Mother Would Love

I have been super slacker as far as giving gifts and doing special little things for our Birthmoms. I guess I could blame it on our relationships are so strong with each one that it I just assume they know how much we all love them and think the world of them.  In November Matt and I attended an adoption seminar that is required for us to stay certified to adopt.  Most of it was yadi yadi yada....but I loved going to the class about Gifts for Birthmoms....not that I really got any new ideas, I just got reminded of how I used to be.  That made me feel sad that I had let so much time go since I did something fun and creative for each of them.  Christmas was fun and we did the Twelve days of Christmas for C. (Elena's Birthmom) and her family.  We got caught on the first day....what are the odds they were coming home right when we were dropping off.  Oh well, our kids and their kids didn't know we had been caught so it was still really fun.  But poor S. (Cody's Birthmom in Utah) She got stuck with an iTunes gift card... I know real creative.  So for Valentines day, I amazingly started thinking early on in the game.  It turned out to be one of those things that only a mother would love. And being a mom, I know those are the gifts I LOVE the MOST!!!  I asked the kids individually about some of their favorite things.  Then cut some squares of cute colored Valentine paper and wrote the questions on the squares of paper.  Then I had the kids write their answers. (For Cody I typed out his answers and printed it off so he could just copy his answers and not keep asking me how to spell certain words.  (I am the worst at spelling anyways, especially if I don't write it out.)  He added his own flare on a few of them and I love that. (for example this on that says ("Pass") he didn't know what to answer for his favorite snack, so he simply said pass.  I love that he added the parentheses and quotation marks...hilarious!!    And his cover turned out adorable...totally and completely his idea.  Elena...she rocked at writing her answers.  I  was hoping that she would write one word on each card, but she was diligent, even alternating colors and adding dots to some of her words.  She  did almost all of them, but a few which had several words in them.  I decided I would just write those one, as there is no way there would have been room for her cute handwriting....and she was exhausted.

Anyways, I laminated them and bound them together, added some ribbon and mailed them off.  I think their favorite page will be when I asked the kids who their favorite person is? and without hesitation they answered with....their Birthmother's name.

Yellow Belt In the House

It's true, we now have a yellow belt in the house.  Cody started taking Karate in November and a couple of weeks ago he tested and got his yellow belt.  We are so proud of him.  Once we got to the testing center he was feeling really nervous and didn't want to do it.  But his teacher came and led him away from us  (best thing she could have done) and he did amazing.  The next week in class he was presented with his Yellow Belt.  I have tons of video of this and not many photos that turned out great, most of my photos are blurry be cause he is "so quick like a Gazelle."  So we will see what I end up posting.
